Captain George N. Sowell
Kinsman of Dillon Anderson and Zachary Locklar
George N. Sowell was born on February 1, 1825 in Henry County Alabama. He grew up in Covington County Alabama. On June 27, 1847 he married Nancy Wiggins and served as the local Justice of the Peace.
With the outbreak of war, he raised a Company of Infantry. It was mustered into Confederate Service in 1862 and became Company F, 29th Alabama Infantry. His Company was sent to Pensacola and then to Mobile. In 1863 he suffered a severe compound fracture of his right arm. The caused him to tender his resignation because he could "neither use a sword or a gun". On June 29, 1863 he was relieved of his duties but he died in Mobile on August 28, 1863. His place of burial is unknown.
