2nd Lt. Nathaniel L. Hammond

Kinsman of Ray Campbell

 

   "Squire" Nathaniel Hammond was born in Graves County Kentucky on January 20, 1834 and lived in Kentucky until he moved to Izard County Arkansas.  Four years after moving to Arkansas the War Between the States commenced.  He joined Co. F, 8th Arkansas Infantry as a Private and rose through the ranks to 2nd Lieutenant. 

   After the war he moved to Fulton County Arkansas.  There he farmed 142 acres and served 11 years as a magistrate and member of the county court.  He was a Baptist, a Mason, and a member of the Democrat Party.  He died in 1892 and is thought to be buried in an unmarked grave in Wild Cherry Cemetery in Fulton County Arkansas.
