On July 26th, 2008 several members of the St. John Richardson Liddell Chapter traveled to the Little River Baptist Church. This cemetery is located just over the County Line in Monroe County and is somewhat removed from our normal area but it is a very interesting place with Blacks, Whites and Indians all buried in the same cemetery. There are also a number of Confederates buried there including 3 officers.
The Cleanup crew cleaned the graves of Captain P. D. Cole, Captain Charles Lubuzan and Colonel William Boyles. The group also noted that the tombstone of Private Henry Clay Staples had sunken so deep that it was about to disappear. They dug it out and cleaned it along with the officers.
After the cleanup, the group toured the area and visited several interesting sites in the area including Montgomery Hill Church and Cemetery, Fort Mims, and the Old English Family Cemetery.
